How the city works.
Every number on this page comes from the running city, the second you load it. When a setting changes, this page changes with it.
Citizens
Every wallet holding at least – of the supply is a citizen with a home in Metropolis. The dev wallet, the dev's own locked bag, the drop vault, the bonding curve and the pool are never citizens.
The bag decides the caste and where the citizen lives. The city has – homes; – are lived in right now.
The town clock
One town day is – real minutes, one town hour – minutes. Citizens commute, work, have lunch, meet on the square in the evening and sleep at night. Windows light up when their citizen is home and awake.
Arrivals and deaths
- A buy that makes a new citizen is a car on the highway: it takes the exit, drives to the citizen's building and parks; the citizen walks in.
- – new citizens inside – seconds arrive together on one train. Trains run every – minutes.
- A wallet that sells its whole bag: the citizen packs, drives away and dies. Its home goes dark and a grave goes up. A mayor who sells out has its statue pulled down.
- Buying more moves a citizen up to a better caste and home; selling part of the bag moves it down.
Your citizen
Sign in on the city page with the holder wallet. Signing in signs a message; it is not a transaction. Your citizen already has a name, a job, a home and a life story; you can rename it, change its look, give it goals and tell it what to do from its phone.
- Autopilot: its AI mind acts in character when you are away. Drive: it only does what you tell it.
- Its AI may spend up to – a day of its in-town balance by default; any buy of – or more waits for your tap. You set both on the phone.
Points
Signed-in citizens earn points for what they do in the city. The size of the bag does not count. Each repeat of the same thing in one town day earns –× the one before, and a citizen earns at most – base points a town day.
Multipliers
Points earned while the city is small count more. Right now: –.
Streak: every drop your citizen stays alive through adds –% to its points, up to –x. Selling the whole bag loses the round's points and the streak.
Drops
A round runs from one drop to the next; this is round –. At the end of the round its pot is split by points and sent. Drops are never more than – hours apart.
- The pot = the drops' share of the creator fees, bought back from the chart in small buys across the round, + the city tax. Every drop is bought on the market with the fees; nothing else goes in.
- Your share goes to your wallet, or stays on your in-town balance if you switched "keep in the city" on the phone.
- A share under – rolls over to your next drop. A round where nobody has points rolls its whole pot over.
The city's money
$POLIS is the money inside Metropolis. Citizens pay each other in it for shops, games, rent and wages, at prices set in dollars and paid at the live price.
- – of every payment between citizens is city tax and goes into the running round's pot.
- Withdraw your in-town balance to your wallet any time (from –); – of it is burned in the same transaction.
- Nobody deposits: coins only enter the city through the buybacks.
Creator fees
– of the creator fees pays for the citizens' AI minds. The rest is split by the mayor's settings:
The mayor can move them within –% for drops, –% for buyback and burn and –% for public works.
The mayor
Every – town days the citizens elect a mayor: –. Candidates campaign with a promise and a fee split. The winner sets the split and gets a bronze statue on the square with its name, term, promise and split on the plaque. The last twelve stand round the hall; older mayors become busts inside. Sitting mayor: –.
Invites
Your invite link is on your phone. A new holder who signs in through it within – hours of moving in earns you – of its points, on top of its own.
On chain
- Coin: –
- Drop vault program: –. Every drop and withdrawal is sent by this program from its own vault, never by the dev wallet.
- The dev's bag is his own and locked by him: no drop ever uses it, and the vault program never touches it.
- Every drop, buyback, withdrawal and burn, with its transaction: the ledger.
